Even as one was left wondering about Graeme Smith and his propensity to keep getting injured with regard to his hands, he has been given a positive verdict on taking on India as the South African captain for the Test series.
Cricket South Africa's (CSA) medical panel today expressed its full confidence that Proteas’ captain Graeme Smith will be fit to lead his side in the Castle Test series against India which starts at SuperSport Park on December 16.
“Graeme Smith sustained a hand injury during the series against Pakistan,” commented Dr. Shuaib Manjra, chairman of CSA’s medical committee. “This hampered his performance and he was not able to take part in the second innings of the final Test.
“Graeme consulted a hand surgeon on the Cricket South Africa Medical Panel today, Friday November 26.
“Following that consultation we have been given the assurance that Graeme’s injury is healing within expectation and we are confident that he will make a full recovery and be available for the entire series against India.
“He will begin training with the team when they reconvene on the 12th December, 2010.
“Graeme will be reviewed in two weeks’ time for a further assessment. In the meantime the Proteas’ medical team will continue with his rehabilitation,” concluded Dr. Manjra.
