Another ODI series sees the Indian cricket team rather depleted after the Indian captain has asked for rest and will enjoy a break along with some of the more prominent names in the Indian team.
Yet again the Indian team will look young and inexperienced after the Indian selectors acceded to Mahendra Singh Dhoni's request for rest for the India New Zealand ODI series. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh will also play no part in the series while Zaheer Khan has been given a preliminary two ODIs rest to recover from a groin injury.
Gautam Gambhir will captain the Indian team for only the first two ODIs as the selectors have named him. And the task will not be easy even if New Zealand's latest record in ODIs in a 4-0 loss against Bangladesh.
Yusuf Pathan gets another opportunity to cement his place once more while Yuvraj Singh will brush aside the nursing wound of having lost his place in the Test team even as the selectors announced India's Test squad for South Africa.
India’s team squad for the India New Zealand ODI series:
Gautam Gambhir (capt), M Vijay, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Saurabh Tiwary, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, R Vinay Kumar, Munaf Patel, Sreesanth, Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja
