South Africa Announce Squad for India South Africa Series Without Surprises

by Sreelata S. Yellamrazu

South Africa retained essentially the same consistent squad for the forthcoming India South Africa Test series, with one exception.

Ryan McLaren is the only addition to the South African squad that toured the UAE for the Test series against Pakistan. The inclusion of the fast bowler ( considered an all rounder ) is a clear indication of intentions of South Africa's plans on their own turf for the present no.1 Test team.

Hashim Amla is expected to recover from his forearm injury as also, Graeme Smith, the South African captain, from his hand injury. Nonetheless the selectors have not taken any chances and have decided to retain both, Ashwell Prince and JP Duminy.

South Africa will battle India in a keen contest, considered by many as a revenge contest of sorts after India held their own in India to snatch the Test mace ahead of South Africa. While India have since consistently built up towards maintaining their new found stature, South Africa have stagnated for want of fresh ideas and plans. And they will look to the series against India for that additional spark to propel them forward towards those ambitions once more.

South Africa Test squad for India South Africa Test series:
Graeme Smith (captain), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher (wicketkeeper), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Ryan McLaren, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe
