It is not very often that legends of the game share a common dark side. But some can afford to laugh at themselves and that is precisely what Australia's legendary leg spinner did, plausibly to the embarrassment to the now former no.1 golfer.
At the Master's dinner at Crown, Shane Warne had the opportunity to share the dias with Tiger Woods and it was not lost on him that both men, while geniuses at their respective game, have had their fair share of gluttony in terms of controversies that have revolved around women, sex and extra marital affairs. And it has affected each player's standing in their own way, with Tiger suffering his lowest year in limelight and Warne losing the opportunity to become Australian captain in his own right. Both players draw huge sponsorships and there is no telling how much it has cost them on that front.
It was then with the intention to lighten the mood that Warne joked,
We've got a lot in common ... I love golf...
drawing muffled laughter from surprised audience at the gathering.
Having said that, Warne was not endorsing his lifestyle as he reiterated afterwards how the numerous illicit affairs and scandals had taken their toll on his marriage to Susan and his family life with his kids when the scandalous text messages and the rest followed.
