Zulqarnain Haider Threatens to Expose Pakistan Cricket; Family Gets Threats

by Sreelata S. Yellamrazu

The Pakistan wicket keeper once again found himself in the midst of concerns for his family after he threatened to expose malpractice and corruption in Pakistan cricket.

Zulqarnain Haider has been copping a lot of ridicule and criticism over his decision to leave the Pakistan cricket team in the lurch during the Pakistan South Africa series in the UAE and land in London without seeking anyone's prior permission in the team management.

Ever since Haider has been the subject matter of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan team officials and Pakistan team mates and there has been anger and animosity directed towards the twenty-four year old over his public implication that pressure from bookmakers to indulge in match fixing had forced him to take such a drastic decision.

Haider has had enough of it, it would appear because he posted this on his Facebook page:

"All these people who are saying negative things about me, they should wait for five more days, then I will show them my background and status. After five days I will show them their background and place, and also those who don’t take money and those who have taken money."

Even as the imprudence of his first message on his social networking page was still being debated, it appears Haider has landed himself and his family in a spot of bother as his family in Pakistan are being constantly threatened via phone calls, suggesting that Haider's family could be in security threat if Haider does go ahead and name those cricketers and officials who are involved in the malicious activity that the ICC has been trying harder to tackle even since the allegations of spot fixing broke during Pakistan's tour of England.

While the ICC have been promising to support Haider in his efforts, it appears there is more than what meets the eye as far as Pakistan cricket is concerned, one way or another.
